Philippine Street Life
This is my black and white portfolio of street life in The
Philippines. I went on a three week trip to the island of Mindanao in
April of 2017 to visit my family. I had been to the Philippines two
times before, yet with my camera I was able to capture the beauty of
the chaos and energy on the streets which fascinated me. People
randomly walked into the streets, jeepneys or cars never waited their
turn, motorcycles and trikes would dangerously pass each other, and the
horse and caribou pulling carriages were exhausted in the heat of the
day. Though this disorderly description may make you think that it is
impossible to navigate around, it is quite easy and inexpensive to
travel from one place to another using public transportation. In these
photographs, I have frozen the movement of the everyday experiences in
the Philippines to simplify them into a composition that will change
your perspective.
